Professional Soakaway Installation Dorset
What is a Soakaway?
A soakaway allows surface water to be stored in one location and gradually
released back to the ground, gradually, at a pace the ground can handle.
In effect, the transfer of water from the surface to the ground is slowed down
and stretched out over a longer period.
Soakaways work by taking all the water as fast as it is delivered, returning
what it can to the ground as quickly as possible, but storing the surplus until
the ground is ready and able to absorb it. We can install soakaway crates
(soak away cells) or soakaway rings, depending on your requirements.
Soakaway rings have the advantage to be fully serviceable and benefit
from a much longer lifetime. Call our friendly team for a no obligation chat.
For any problems with an existing Soakaway do not hesitate to contact us, we also carry out Soakaway clearance and repair - call us any time for a free quotation!
Please be aware that Soakaways rarely work on heavy clay soils.
The two determining factors for soakaway success are the size of the area (or volume of water) to be drained and the percolation rate of the soil (or, in some sites, the depth to the water table). Call us for further information.
The first step is to determine whether a Soakaway is suitable for you.
One of the first things to consider when choosing a site for a Soakaway is the water table. This is defined as upper level of the groundwater that is naturally held within the soil, sub-soil or bedrock. It is not uncommon for the water table to rise during the wet months of winter and to fall during the summer months. In the Dorset area like Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch and Ringwood, a soakaway installation is usually not a problem, however it is always recommended to get professional advise before you spend any money.
However, there are some sites where the water table is high, because there is a layer of impermeable clay overlying a deeper strata that might be porous. In such cases, digging through the clay cap and into the porous sub-strata will render a soakaway feasible, assuming that the depth to the porous strata is not prohibitive.
